Photo Diary 2011, Volume 1

Just like last year, my blog for the last 4 days of 2011 will feature my favourite photos I have taken over the past year. I divided the year into quarters and picked 20 for each quarter. So these are the photos from January to March 2011 that I feel represent my best work and experiences. 2011 has been another an amazing (and busy!!) year for me, I shot more weddings & portraits than I ever have before (yay success!!) I also travelled to Guatemala in Feb/March for some voluntourism goodness, so that’s where most of these months photos are from. But it starts with a few from snowy Canada…

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyJanuary 22nd, 2011 A lovely (and freezing!) winter wedding. Here’s the beautiful bride Shelly & her lovely daughters. It was an awesome day, here’s the full blog.

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 2nd, 2011 Yay my Birthday! Jody and I went to Toronto in a crazy blizzard, because a Winter Storm Warning with 25-35 cm of snow don’t stop these Canucks! Plus it was really nothing compared to the 100+ cm we had back in London… remember that? Winter 2010/2011=Snowmageddon

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 2nd, 2011 Another shot from the same day, I dunno it’s artsy and I like how I focused one the snow instead of the people. I’m realizing now though I wish I had even taken more snow photos last winter, but hibernating was fun at the time ;) Oh well I’ll take lots in 2012!

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 6th, 2011 Hat contest winner Madison totally rocked this shoot, here’s the full blog.

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 13th, 2011 So Nancy & Jason were the Snow Contest winners, they got a ridiculous amount of votes and I know why… because they are awesome! I loved photographing their engagements, wedding and stop motion video this year!

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 13th, 2011 One more of Nancy & Jason from the same shoot, but totally different. I know some people don’t get these shots, but I think they are fun! And of course I always take more photos with the heads included, here’s their full blog.

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 19th, 2011 Another awesome wedding, I loved the sky on this day for Laura & Justin’s courthouse wedding. Here’s their full blog.

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 23rd, 2011 And so begins my trip to Guatemala with CoEd. I am obsessed with Volcanoes, when I was a kid I wanted to be a Volcanologist so being able to shoot so many volcanoes now that I’m all growed up is amazing!

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 23rd, 2011 A totally random shot which I love for some reason. I caught this out the window of our van on the way to Santiago, Atitlan.

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 23rd, 2011 The people of Guatemala are so intriguing to me. You can see some highlights from my trip in the full blog.

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 24th, 2011 Lago de Atitlán (Lake Atitlán) and it’s sleeping volcanoes. Aldous Huxley called it “The most beautiful lake in the world”.

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 24th, 2011 A girl in rural Guatemala wearing indigenous clothes at the San Buenaventura Primary School. We visited them for their Culture of Reading Program inauguration.

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 25th, 2011 At Santiago Cooperative School they welcomed with this traditional dance presentation. After looking at so many photos from the great photojournalists I have been trying to include more movement in my shots…

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 25th, 2011 Girls wave goodbye to me as we leave Santiago Cooperative School, the last school on the tour. All the children we on the tour are so talented and enthusiastic, they deserve the same opportunities we take for granted here. I will never forget their smiling faces and meeting them truly changed my outlook forever.

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 26th, 2011 The beautiful Volcán de Agu overlooking the city of Antigua Guatemala. I fell in love with Antigua, as I think everyone does. I could totally see myself retiring there… hmm a girl can dream…

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 26th, 2011 In Antigua there are ruins everywhere left behind from earthquakes, landslides and volcanic eruptions in the past, which give the city a hauntingly beautiful feel. This was one of my favourite places, the Ruins of old San José.

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 27th, 2011 I shot a lot of street photography in Antigua, this is probably my favourite scene from the streets of Antigua. Everything is so colourful there, it is a photographers dream!

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 27th, 2011 I liked this one for it’s cool angle and I just have a thing for ruins. I couldn’t find the name of the building anywhere, everyone just calls it Guatemala Ruins, so maybe whatever it used to be is lost to antiquity. But if anyone knows what it’s called let me know!

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyFebruary 27th, 2011 Freaky masks at Antigua Market. I had run out of pesos at this point, but when I go back next time (hopefully soon!) I’m getting one!

London Ontario Photographer Dana Harper PhotographyMarch 5th, 2011 I’m back in Canada and back to work. My friends Katie & Trevor had a lovely wedding at the Ivy Spencer, congrats! And then I entered hibernation mode until spring came ;)

And that concludes the first volume of my year end photo diary. Tomorrow will be April to June 2011 and it will be a good one because in April I discover the world of cosplay and start Geek Girls! Thanks for viewing <3
